Crispy Prosciutto & Burrata Grilled Cheese (Printable)

Golden sourdough stacked with crisp prosciutto and luscious burrata, melted to perfection.

# What You'll Need:

→ Bread & Butter

01 - 4 slices sourdough or rustic country bread
02 - 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

→ Fillings

03 - 4 slices prosciutto
04 - 1 ball burrata cheese (4 oz), drained
05 - 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves
06 - Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

# How to Make It:

01 - Lay out bread slices and spread one side of each slice evenly with softened butter.
02 - Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Cook prosciutto slices for 1–2 minutes per side until crisp. Transfer to paper towel-lined plate.
03 - Place two bread slices buttered side down. Tear burrata and distribute evenly. Top with crispy prosciutto, basil leaves if desired, and black pepper. Cover with remaining bread slices, buttered side up.
04 - Cook sandwiches in skillet for 3–4 minutes per side, pressing gently with spatula, until bread is golden and cheese is warm and melty.
05 - Remove from pan, slice in half, and serve immediately.

# Expert Suggestions:

01 -
  • The salty crunch of prosciutto against the creamy burrata creates the most incredible texture contrast that hits every part of your palate at once.
  • It takes ordinary grilled cheese and elevates it into something dinner-party worthy while still being ready in under twenty minutes.
02 -
  • Never skip the step of crisping the prosciutto separately or you will end up with rubbery sad pork instead of the delightful salty crunch that makes this sandwich special.
  • Low and slow is the key here because high heat will burn the bread before the burrata has a chance to melt into that glorious puddle we are after.
03 -
  • Use a cast iron skillet if you have one because it holds heat evenly and creates the most gorgeous golden crust.
  • Room temperature burrata melts more evenly and quickly, so pull it out of the fridge about 20 minutes before you start cooking.
